According to statistics, as of July 2021, a total of 4.48 billion people worldwide are using social media. This number corresponds to more than half of the world’s population. People from all age groups, big or small, use social networking services and show interest in some way.
A new study by Piper Sandler has revealed the most popular social networking platform among young users. According to the survey conducted with 10 thousand US youth in total, a significant decrease was observed in the usage rate of Facebook. Instagram took the first seat.
Young people use Instagram the most.
81% of respondents said they use Instagram. While 77 percent preferred Snapchat, 73 percent answered ‘TikTok’. Looking at the data, it seems that there is no big difference between TikTok and Snapchat. Launched by China-based ByteDance in 2016, the short-form video app recently surpassed 1 billion users.
27 percent of the young people who participated in Piper Sandler’s survey stated that they use Facebook. In a 2020 survey conducted by the market research company Statista, it was revealed that 71 percent of citizens over the age of 56 who use Facebook cover 71 percent. While the platform has become popular with the elderly, it seems to have been pushed aside by the young.
Teenagers’ favorite social network: Snapchat
Instagram is the most used app by young people, but when it comes to the most favorite one, things change. According to Piper Sandler, only 22 percent of respondents consider Instagram their ‘favorite’. 35% of them use the game in favor of Snapchat. Also, while 30 percent describe TikTok as their favorite app, only 2 percent say the same for Facebook.
