Perhaps the most important stage of the food industry is logistics. Automotive giants have been developing efficient trucks for years so that big companies can make big savings. Tesla has taken one of the most striking steps in recent years and announced its electric truck called Tesla Semi. Pepsi, which will use these trucks, which affects the entire automotive industry with its promises on efficiency and safety, announced the critical date.
Pepsi will use Tesla Semi trucks at the end of 2022
Pepsi is one of the world’s largest food manufacturers. Even the products that the company provides only to food chains make up a large part of the industry. The big boss of this giant company, Ramon Laguarta, announced in an interview with CNBC that they will receive the delivery of Tesla Semi trucks in the last quarter of 2022. Before Pepsi, we heard that big companies ordered these electric trucks. Pepsi also announced at the end of 2017 that it had joined the orderers.
The fact that Tesla’s Semi trucks, which have not yet been delivered, are electric, provides great fuel savings. Considering that the trucks are used for quite long distances, this savings exceeds several thousand dollars. We learned at the Tesla Semi presentation that the vehicle saves 200,000 dollars in fuel in two years. The Tesla Semi, which can travel up to 800 kilometers on a single charge, can be very useful for a company that delivers around the world like Pepsi.
Fuel economy is not the only feature that Semi promises. According to Tesla, this truck provides a much safer ride than its competitors with the help of artificial intelligence. In addition, the design of the vehicle, which combines futurism with simplicity, is also noteworthy.
Electric trucks draw attention in the logistics sector
Fuel has been the most calculated expense in logistics to date. Already with the electric car transformation initiated by Tesla, we were used to seeing electric cars such as Tesla Model 3 on the roads. Although Tesla provides fuel efficiency with passenger cars, the effect of using electricity as a fuel becomes even more apparent when it comes to business.
Tesla Semi has not been delivered yet. At the moment, companies can place orders, but we have not heard from a word other than Tesla how it drives in practice. If the Tesla Semi can fulfill its promise, it will probably be a key in the logistics industry’s preference for electric trucks.
