KRAFTON, Inc. has announced that PUBG: BATTLEGROUNDS’ newest map, Deston, will launch on July 13. Players have partially seen images of this flooded, futuristic megacity through Developer Letters and materials, and now live streamed by Dave Curd (PUBG Studios Creative Director) and Michael Gilardi (Madison, PUBG Universe Development Unit Manager) on June 25. They will be able to examine in depth the Deston map announced at the event. Below you can see a detailed summary of Deston and new features shown throughout Dev Talk.

New Map: Deston

Various elements and feedback from Haven were taken into account when designing this 8×8 map to ensure its look, feel, and mechanics were right for PUBG: BATTLEGROUNDS. Deston is the largest, longest, and most intense map in the game. Throughout a match, players will be immersed in a dense urban environment, from tall and vertical buildings in Deston to rolling hills, plains and newly designed swamps. The map aims to present that fine point between entertaining gameplay and immersing players in a real combat environment. Deston will challenge players to learn about each environment of the map, forcing them to consider different gear, vehicles and trenches to earn chicken dinner there. More details on Deston’s new regions can be found below.

Swamp – The first swamp area of PUBG: BATTLEGROUNDS was designed in the northern part of the map. This area is a unique area full of new experiences for players. Dense and lush mangrove forest leads to various conflicts taking place in the immediate vicinity.

Central Plains – The central plains offer the traditional experience that players know and love. Similar to Erangel and Taego, this area strikes a balance between cover, scenery, and points of interest (POI) for players to explore. Located within the central plains, Lodge POI is the largest building ever built in the game. Players can quickly enter this building and observe how those who go hunting are hunting.
Concert Zone – Party-goers will find a ball in the concert zone as players stumble upon a huge floating chicken balloon. Paintball Arena will also provide opportunities for short, medium and long range combat. Players will want to familiarize themselves with this area as it may come to Team Deathmatch mode in the future.

Western Highlands – Shooters will test players’ sniper and sniper rifle skills and enjoy what the western highlands have to offer. With minimal plants and a wide view level, unsuspecting players can find themselves right in the middle of the reticle. The winding hills and rocky atmosphere in the desolate coastal island area will allow for more cover and devious challenges.

New Movement Mechanics and Features

Booster – A brand new movement mechanic is coming to PUBG: BATTLEGROUNDS to transport players around Deston when the map is officially released. The Booster is a motorized reel and players can see them attached to the wall of some buildings, including special Cell Towers. This new mechanic will allow players to seamlessly transition from the ground to the top of a building and land back. In addition, players will not need to carry any special items to use the boosters, and their speed can be adjusted with the sprint button.

Auxiliary Parachute – There’s no point in designing the tallest buildings ever introduced in PUBG: BATTLEGROUNDS if you can’t jump over them – which is why the always-available Supplementary Parachute has been designed so that players can jump from Deston’s heights without fear. The Assistant Parachute is an item available in players’ inventories and remains open at all times, so the parachute will move so players can deploy their parachutes and prematurely get them off the ground as they land on the map. Also, special Cell Towers with boosters on them allow players to combine the booster with the auxiliary parachute and create a slingshot-like movement to travel around the map.

Gas Stations – Deston offers gas stations that process and allow players to refuel their vehicles while navigating the map. But if these stations are hit, players should be wary that the Michael Bay explosions could experience the full effect.

New Tactical Gear: Blue Chip Detector

With the release of Deston, the Blue Chip Detector is also added to the game as a new tactical gear. The Blue Chip Detector is the close range scout scope and helps players locate their opponents within a certain radius. However, due to the delay in detection, it does not show the positions of other players instantly, nor does it fully reveal vertical positions in urban areas. The core gameplay of PUBG: BATTLEGROUNDS remains the top priority, and feedback on new tactical gear will be closely watched once players start playing.

New Weapons

Like all maps, Deston brings players two new and exclusive weapons. The Origin 12 is a single-bullet shotgun with superior accuracy and range to be more efficient in all areas of the map. The MP9 is a powerful new SMG specializing in close range.
