Elon Musk, who officially bought Twitter in October 2022, announced that the Twitter algorithm would be published as open source before this purchase. However, despite the months that have passed since the purchase, there was no sound on this issue.
That silence was finally broken today. Responding to a user’s words, “I will be more impressed if you open source,” Musk announced when the Twitter algorithm will be open source.
Musk’s promise comes true next week:
“Be prepared to be disappointed at first when our algorithm becomes open source next week, but it will evolve quickly!”
What will it mean for the Twitter algorithm to be open source?
Once the Twitter algorithm becomes open source, we as end users will not see a direct impact of it. However, with this move, Twitter will have an advantage over regulators and policies, which will be able to make more comfortable and concrete defenses about what content the platform chooses to bring before users.
