“When the Chip Crisis Will End” Forecasts from AMD, Intel and NVIDIA. . .

A new date has been put forward about when the chip shortage, which started globally with COVID-19 and felt its effect in the whole market and many sectors, will end. In an interview with The Hindu BusinessLine’s AMD CTO and Vice President, Mark Papermaster, the target is 2023.

According to Papermaster, the silicon industry will finally breathe in 2023. Stating that the balance of supply and demand can be restored in 2023, Mark Papermaster points out that with the re-establishment of this balance, prices may return to normal levels.

However, according to Papermaster, the process will be seen as supply levels start to improve, which is expected to be achieved in the 2nd half of 2022. This means that stocks will be restored as of June 2022 and we will start to see more affordable graphics cards. Of course, we may feel the effect of the rising exchange rate differently.

On the other hand, Intel CEO Pat Gelsinger said that the crisis could continue for a few more years, which is close to what Mark Papermaster said earlier this year, while NVIDIA CEO Jensen Huang said, “We don’t have the magic bullet to deal with the chip shortage”. He said that throughout the year, he thought the demand would far exceed the supply.

It seems that 2022 will also be a little shaky in this regard, but we can say that it looks like it will be on the straight with 2023.
