The Perseverance spacecraft, which landed with its helicopter on February 18, 2021, and which was the basis of many firsts in human history, discovered an interesting structure on the surface of Mars. A ring-like rock was observed in the photo taken by the spacecraft.
There were also different rocks of the same color around the rock with a hole in the middle. Scientists from the SETI Institute said the rock could be part of a meteorite that fell on the planet.
Rock discovered by the Perseverance spacecraft:
There is no information about the structure of the rock and how long it has been on the surface of Mars. On the other hand, this rock is not the first piece of meteorite discovered on the Martian surface. Perseverance and its predecessor, the Curiosty spacecraft, had encountered meteorite fragments many times.
Perseverance explores the circumference of Jezero crater, which is now 45 kilometers in diameter. It is estimated that this crater may have hosted a large lake billions of years ago. Samples collected by Perseverance from the Martian surface are planned to be delivered to Earth in the future.
