WhatsApp, the world’s most popular instant messaging app, had a rather primitive side. The dev team hasn’t changed the emoji keyboard for years. The latest news reveals that this situation will change in the near future.
The Android beta version of WhatsApp with the code 2.23.9.2 revealed what the emoji keyboard, which is still under development, will look like. As a matter of fact, the new design is not much different from the old one, but now a more modern look will be presented.

In current versions of WhatsApp, we see categories of emoji at the top and options for GIFs or stickers at the bottom. It looks like this view will change with the new layout. Search and other options will be located at the top of the keyboard, and emojis will be located at the bottom. It looks like the emoji categories can be moved to the bottom or removed altogether.
It’s unclear when WhatsApp’s redesigned emoji keyboard will reach users. It is also unknown for now whether this update will have an effect on the normal keyboard design. We expect future beta releases to provide more information about the new keyboard.
