Meta, formerly known as Facebook, launched its digital wallet “Novi” in mid-October. Now, the company has announced that Novi is coming to WhatsApp for a pilot study. A limited number of WhatsApp users in the United States will now be able to send and receive cryptocurrencies to their family and friends via the messaging platform, and the process will be quite easy.
The Novi digital wallet uses USDP (Pax Dollar), a digital currency running on secure blockchain technology. While Novi is available as a dedicated app, it’s now seamlessly integrated into WhatsApp as well, for at least some users in the US.
Meta will roll out Novi money transfers to more WhatsApp users in the US, and possibly some other markets, including Guatemala, after testing ends, but there is no concrete information yet on widespread release plans.
It is very easy to send and receive money on Novi using WhatsApp. Users just need to tap on the attachment icon and select the “Payment” option. They can then specify the amount of USDP they want to send to the relevant person through Novi, tap “Next” and confirm by pressing the “Send Money” button. The completed transfer will then appear in the WhatsApp conversation just like any other message or attachment.
The Novi test is open to both iOS and Android platforms. . .
