WhatsApp already has security measures like end-to-end encryption to protect messages. With the new privacy feature that will be added soon, calls will also be made more secure.

WhatsApp offers an option to mute calls from unknown numbers, but these are visible in the Calls tab and notifications. Apparently, WhatsApp wants to add new feature to calls in order to offer better privacy and security experience. The option to protect the IP address was seen in WhatsApp Android beta version 2.23.18.15.

It will affect call quality

The new option, which can be accessed from Settings – Privacy – WhatsApp Calls, provides an extra layer of security for calls. WhatsApp will make it difficult for the caller to find your location by transferring securely over its own servers during the call. However, WhatsApp states that the call quality may decrease slightly when this option is enabled.

With this feature, WhatsApp aims to provide an extra layer of protection against possible attempts to track physical location based on call data. As a result, users will be able to perform safer searches and ensure that their location information is effectively protected. IP address protection for calls is currently under development.
