WhatsApp will gain a number of new features to improve user security. The popular messaging application activates three features called Account Protection, Device Verification and Automatic Security Codes for the privacy of conversations.
New privacy features for WhatsApp
These features, which will be shared by WhatsApp, aim to prevent unauthorized use of accounts. Also, the platform says it aims to help protect users from account theft. WhatsApp has already started testing these features in beta versions.
The messaging app has started testing three new features: Account Protection, Device Authentication, and Automatic Security Codes. First, Account Protection targets users who switch devices. Verification will be requested from the old phone before switching to the new device.
Another innovation, Device Verification, will add an additional layer of security. WhatsApp reported that it will introduce new checks to help you verify account identity. Finally, user information will be stored encrypted with Automatic Security Codes.
- Account Protection: This feature can help warn you about an unauthorized attempt to migrate your account to another device.
- Device Verification: Controls are coming to help authenticate your account without taking any action and better protect you when your device is compromised.
- Automatic Security Codes: You can manually check the security code by going to the encryption tab under the contact’s information.
