WhatsApp, the world’s most popular instant messaging service, has added many features to its platform over the past few years. And some of these new features were inspired by its competitor Telegram. Now WhatsApp seems to be getting one more feature from Telegram.

According to a new report from WABetaInfo, WhatsApp has started testing animated emojis in chats. This news seems to be in line with previous rumors that the instant messaging platform will bring more fun emojis and stickers to the service. Animated emojis are quite similar to those found on Telegram. This feature will appear when you send a single emoji and WhatsApp will automatically convert a regular emoji into an animated one. It will also increase the size of the emoji to make it stand out more.

These animated emojis appear to have been made using Lottie, a library that makes it easy for designers to create simple animations while keeping file sizes small. Currently, animated emojis have been seen in the beta version of WhatsApp for desktop, but the feature may soon be available for beta versions of WhatsApp for Android, iOS and macOS.

This new beta version of WhatsApp also brings some minor changes, including a change to the text size for the About section below each contact. Thanks to the smaller text size, it is possible to see more information in the same view.
