WhatsApp group chats may soon have Discord-like features. As WABetaInfo and The Verge report, WhatsApp is developing a Communities feature that will allow admins to consolidate group chats under one larger umbrella. Below a large group chat it will be possible to create dependent, smaller group chats. For example, students who are members of a group related to a course will also be able to connect to a group with their parents from that group.
Chats will be conducted with end-to-end encryption as they are today. Admins will be able to add people to the community or invite them by sharing an invite link. No further details on this issue have yet been received.
WABetaInfo states that Communities will appear in a future beta of WhatsApp for Android and iOS, but it’s unclear when. However, it is thought that this period will not be too long. Such a feature is thought to attract great attention, especially in countries such as Brazil and India, where WhatsApp is a big part of social life.
