WhatsApp, which has Android, iOS, Windows and web applications for normal users and business users, is launching the new Security Center on its website to increase security awareness for users on its platform. This hub highlights some of the key security features offered in its app:

“Privacy by default: No one can call your phone number or read your personal messages.

Automatic spam detection: We catch and remove most spam and scam accounts before they reach you or before anyone reports them.

Proactive security alerts: If we detect any suspicious or unauthorized attempts to hack your account, we’ll ask you to verify your identity.”

WhatsApp also encourages users to be more proactive about their online safety and learn the steps they can take to secure themselves against fraud and security breaches. Users can enable two-step verification by adding a six-digit PIN, which will be additionally prompted before switching to a new phone. They can also report suspected fraud and problematic behavior by other users.

Important changes in WhatsApp design

WhatsApp will also have some new design features starting with iOS v23.11.0.76 beta, including displaying the profile photo in the settings button at the bottom left of the screen. A special two-step process will also be implemented to avoid accidental calls in group chats.

Starting in Android v2.23.12.8 beta, users will be able to assign profile icons for group participants. This can enable participants to distinguish other participants more easily through visuals. This feature was temporarily unavailable for previously unknown reasons. In the emoji keyboard area, too, the emoji category bar has been moved to the bottom and the GIF, Sticker, and Emoji tab has been moved up.

An exciting new addition to the WhatsApp beta on Android could be the Discover channel. This feature, which is currently under development, will allow users to receive news and updates from the people they want to follow. In this tab, users will be able to search for new people or businesses they want to follow.

Finally, WhatsApp is moving to Material Design 3 for its Android app. So this update will have a modern and fresh look, compatible with the rest of the Android 13 UI.
