A new feature that the world’s most popular instant messaging application WhatsApp is working on has surfaced. The feature, which appeared in the iOS beta version with the code “23.5.0.71”, reveals that the “expiration date” will be added to the groups on WhatsApp. So what exactly will this feature do?
You know groups on WhatsApp; It allows you to get together and chat with relatives, close friends and family. However, there are some groups that are created only for certain topics and when the topic ends, the group almost dies. For example, you are setting up a group for a friend’s birthday, and you do not message the group again after the birthday. That’s exactly what the expiration date feature will be an effective tool for such groups.
Here are the first screenshots of WhatsApp’s feature in development:
Although it is not clear at the moment, according to preliminary estimates, the new feature of WhatsApp under development will send a notification to the user when the expiration date of a group is reached. In this notification, it will be informed that the expiry date of the group in question has come. The user will be able to leave the group or clear messages from the group’s detail page. This will prevent an unused group from occupying the storage space. The expiration date feature will be a user-specific option. In other words, other users in the group will not be affected by your decision.
Users will also determine the expiration dates of groups on WhatsApp. In this context; users will be able to set an expiry date of a day, a week or any date they wish. In addition, a predetermined expiration date for one group can be removed at another date. Let’s not go without saying that; The new feature is still in its early stages. Developers may also offer options such as automatically exiting expiration groups or automatic deletion of messages in the future. Future beta releases may offer more details about this feature…
