It looks like WhatsApp users will gain strong protection against falling prey to spam or scam calls in the near future. Meta is reportedly working on a new feature in WhatsApp that will reportedly act as a shield against unwanted calls.
Once the feature goes live, users will see a new enableable option called “Silence unknown calls” in the app settings. Enabling this option means you are allowing WhatsApp to automatically silence calls from unknown numbers.
The upcoming new feature will not block calls from unknown numbers; you will only have semen on your reflection. Nothing will change for callers as they will continue to hear the same call tone even when you enable the feature.
Of course, not every call from an unknown number can be labeled as a potential scam. Your friends or family may also be using a different phone. Even if you enable the “Mute unknown callers” option, you will still be able to see the unknown numbers in the call list. This way you will be able to decide if you need to call them back.
As WABetainfo reports, the ability to silence calls from unknown numbers is currently being tested internally and is not yet available to WhatsApp beta testers. The feature will likely be available for testing for Beta users before it’s generally available.
