Messaging platform WhatsApp may soon increase the file transfer limit by up to 20 times, as noticed in the latest beta. Until now, the WhatsApp file forwarding size limit was 100 MB, which we can say is relatively low. This was both receiving complaints from users and taking rival messaging platforms one step ahead.
However, the company currently allows some beta users to send files up to 2GB. The update is limited to a small number of users in Argentina for now, but this test shows that WhatsApp is considering a service-wide change.
A 100MB file size limit used to be considered quite high, but as the quality of images and videos continues to improve, so does the amount of storage they occupy.
WhatsApp last increased the size limit from 16MB to 100MB in 2019. There has been no change in this size since then. Now, if it expands the 2GB upgrade to its entire user base, it will surpass Telegram (1.5GB) and far surpass Messenger (25MB) and other services.

This update can be very useful for anyone who wants to share large, high quality multimedia files with friends and colleagues, or for those who are looking for an easy way to transfer a few files between computers.
The decision to increase the limit to 2GB may also force private file transfer and cloud storage services to upgrade, many of which operate under stricter size limits. For example, WeTransfer’s free service has a limit of 2GB, and Box only allows non-paying users to upload 250MB files.
