Popular messaging app WhatsApp has announced a new feature designed to provide users with an additional layer of security for their private conversations. This feature allows you to lock a conversation, taking that conversation out of your inbox and putting it in its own folder.

How “Chat Lock” works

When you lock a chat with the Chat Lock feature, the app will automatically hide the content of that chat in the notifications. You can lock one-to-one or group chats by tapping the name of that chat and selecting the lock option. Just scroll down to see the locked chat tab.

“We think this feature would be great for people who have to share their phone with a family member from time to time, or when someone else is holding your phone when an extra private conversation comes in,” the company said in a blog post.

Meta also stated that it plans to add more options about Chat Lock, including locking and creating a custom password for your chats. The Chat Lock feature will be available in a few weeks after WhatsApp’s new update on polls and sharing.
