In the announcement made by WhatsApp, the messaging application can now be used on multiple phones at the same time, and up to four assistive devices can be connected in total. This process works similarly to users connecting PCs and tablets to their accounts and using WhatsApp independently on each device. This update was also announced by Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg on his Facebook page.

The company first announced the ability to connect multiple devices last year in order to increase cross-device compatibility. As part of this feature, WhatsApp will sync chats and media between devices over the internet while keeping chats end-to-end encrypted. It was also stated that if the primary device is disabled for a long time, WhatsApp will automatically log out of auxiliary devices.

“Connecting phones as assistive devices makes messaging easier,” the company wrote in a blog post. You can now switch between phones without logging out and continue your conversations where you left off. Or, if you’re a small business owner, additional employees can now respond to customers directly from their phones under the same WhatsApp Business account.”

The update has started rolling out gradually around the world and will reach everyone in the coming weeks. WhatsApp added that it will also introduce an alternative way to add assistive devices in the coming weeks. Users will be able to type their phone number into WhatsApp Web to receive a one-time code that they can enter on their primary phone to connect the device.
