WhatsApp is rapidly adding many new features and improvements to its smartphone and desktop apps. Last year, the company made it easy to transfer data from one phone to another between operating systems and added the ability to edit messages. It is now testing a fine-tuned UI design for chats.
WABetaInfo reports that WhatsApp is testing a full-width design for message bubbles in chat threads. This design spreads messages across the width of the screen, fitting more content at the same height. However, such full-width messages are only visible in Community threads and group chats where only admins can post. Since only one sender can send a message in such threads and groups, it is more convenient to spread the content across the entire width of the phone screen.
This new user interface has appeared in users using WhatsApp Beta for Android. But not all, only some beta testers can see this new UI. It’s possible that it will be rolled out to more testers in the coming weeks before it’s rolled out to all WhatsApp users worldwide.
The new full-width message bubble design will also be available on iPhone in the near future. WhatsApp brings many new features to group chats and the recently announced Communities. It will also soon launch a new feature that lets you send 4K images and Full HD videos instead of compressed, low-resolution media files.
