Before the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) Spider-Man series with Tom Holland, there was The Amazing Spider-Man series, in which we watched Andrew Garfield as the iconic character, as you all know. Although this series, where we see the story of Peter Parker’s parents, who are not mentioned in the trilogy of Sam Raimi, was very weak in terms of scenario and was not very popular, Garfield’s Peter Parker managed to become a favorite of many fans.

However, even though Garfield’s Spider-Man was very popular, it wasn’t enough to save the series. After The Amazing Spider-Man 2, which was released in 2014, we never saw the planned third movie of the series. With Captain America: Civil War released in 2016, we met the new Spider-Man Tom Holland. However, Sony actually had big dreams for The Amazing Spider-Man.

Sony was planning its own Spider-Man universe

Following the blockbuster Marvel’s The Avengers, released in 2012, Sony made plans to create its own Spider-Man universe of interconnected films with The Amazing Spider-Man 2 as its focus. Accordingly, The Amazing Spider-Man 3 would be released on June 10, 2016, and The Amazing Spider-Man 4 would be released on May 4, 2018. The Venom and The Sinister Six series were also planned, and the Gentelman character was also intended to be the one who brought together Spider-Man’s enemies by being included in the universe.

In this regard, Gelicia Hardy, aka Black Cat, brought to life by Felicity Jones, was also included in the universe with The Amazing Spider-Man 2. In a deleted scene, it was pointed out that Norman Osborn, played by Chris Cooper and shown to have died due to a genetic disease, will return as the Green Goblin; In another deleted scene, it was shown that his scientist father, Richard Parker, who was shown to have died at the beginning of the series, somehow returned.

These two key characters were planned to play a major role in the story by being included in the series with The Amazing Spider-Man 3. In fact, according to Dennis Leary, who gave a rock to Gwen Stacey’s father George Stacey in the series, the third movie would be about the resurrection of dead characters. Following Sony’s reboot with Marvel Studios in 2017, director Marc Webb noted that the third The Amazing Spider-Man movie would coincide with the Sinister Six spin-off, which also included Cooper’s Green Goblin.

Speaking to Den of Geek at the time about these plans, Webb said of the Goblin, “We were going to freeze its head and then it would be brought back to life.” Stating that after Dane Dehaan’s Green Goblin, who played Harry Osborn in The Amazing Spider-Man 2, we will watch Harry’s father Norman Osborn as the main villain in the new movie, Webb said, “He was going to direct The Sinister Six. It’s actually about Vulture. We even talked a little bit,” he added.

Some of these plans eventually materialized in the MCU. With Spider-Man: Homecoming released in 2017, we watched the Vulture character played by Michael Keaton, and a Green Goblin with Willem Dafoe leading other villains with the newly released Spider-Man: No Way Home. While there are some rumors floating around right now, we don’t know what the future holds for neither Garfield’s nor Holland’s Spider-Man. We will wait and see together how the story of this iconic character, who defines the childhood of a period, will develop.
