The name ‘Blush’, which means ‘to blush’, sounds pretty harmonious. This is because Blush wine was originally developed only for a sales strategy. We can call the Blush wine the discovery of American producers. Due to the squeezing of Zinfandel grapes without waiting, a lighter colored drink is obtained and it is called ‘White Zinfandel’. Then, American producers want to make white wine from Cabernet Sauvignon grape, one of the most well-known red grapes in the world. As they keep it waiting longer than it should, a pink-toned drink emerges and is called ‘Blush’.
There is no such thing as ‘Blush’ in wine literature.
The color of Blush wines, which is literally an American invention, is similar to light pink. When winemakers decide to make a Blush wine, they do so in two ways. First, the clear water obtained from the grapes is left in contact with their skins. In the second way, red and white wines are mixed. But Blush wines, according to some people, are the same as Rose wines and there is no definition of ‘Blush’ in the wine literature.
Every Blush is a Rosé, but not every Rosé is a Blush
Blush wine is one of the sub-genres of Rose wine. Rose wine is divided into many types in terms of taste, smell and color tone due to production techniques or the fruits used. There is no place for blush wine in the main types of wine, which are basically divided into red, white and rosé according to their color.
Well, how do we know if a Rosé wine is Blush?
First of all, there is not a very serious color difference between them. Blush wines are a slightly lighter shade of pink than Rose wines. The reason for this is that Blush wines have less contact with the grape skins. People who really understand wine may notice that when they raise a glass, the Blush wine is brighter in color.
Also, aging is not important for a Rose or Blush. On the contrary, it is more important that it is newly produced so that it does not lose its fresh aroma. The glass selection is different for each type of wine. In rosé wines, the rim is outward and is smaller than other glasses. The reason for this is that with the contact of the glass with the back of the tongue, it is ensured that the aroma is taken more easily.
In short, Blush wine was separated from Roze wine as a name and only a sales strategy was tried to be realized. But both of them are very comfortable to drink and have a pleasant aroma. There is no distinction other than color and taste differences that are difficult to notice.
