ChatGPT made the headlines for productive AI when it hit 1 million users in its first five days. However, some questions such as how much of the rumors about ChatGPT are true and how this technology will affect our daily lives continue to be on the minds of many.
How much investment does productive AI take?
Generative AI can be defined as artificial intelligence that creates content from simple prompts and context. This new technology can be used to create everything from articles to 3D objects, and newer models can even combine multiple capabilities.
According to PitchBook and the National Venture Capital Association (NVCA), productive AI accounted for less than 1% of total US venture capital funding of $238.3 billion in 2022. But estimates point to a hot market and high hopes for growth, with 450 startups and a few new funds for productive AI.
Bringing generative AI to the fore, ChatGPT is an AI model built by OpenAI (GPT stands for generative pre-trained converter). Released on November 30, 2022, ChatGPT gained 1 million users in five days and became the center of the popular agenda. However, despite the excitement surrounding the technology, many limitations and challenges remain, and a tweet from OpenAI CEO Sam Altman about ChatGPT said, “It’s a mistake to rely on it for anything important right now.”
It “learns” with every use
Generative AI models simulate how we think based on algorithms that “learn” with every use. Starting with millions of labeled images, text, or other media, these models slowly identify patterns that allow them to understand and create content independently. People often make tweaks as a model evolves. Although OpenAI is the best known prolific AI company, it is not the only company working on this technology.
Creative industries are already feeling the change in workflows due to productive AI. Copywriters, designers, coders, photo and video editors, and even strategists now have access to productive AI tools that can simplify their daily tasks. However, it has the potential to disrupt some businesses and can provoke backlash for accuracy, fairness, and plagiarism.
Generative AI is driving a communications revolution that will make researching, creating and testing content much easier. And the changes are likely to happen faster than past content revolutions.
