The boundaries of the game world are expanding a little more every day. This increases the need for events and platforms to bring people together. The Game Developers Conference (GDC) 2023 meets exactly this need. The conference, which managed to attract participants from all over the world and was eagerly awaited by both software developers and players, came to an end after a week. Here are the details…

What happened at GDC 2023?

GDC 2023 brought together all amateurs and industry leaders interested in game development. More than 28,000 people visited GDC this year, with more than 1,000 speakers and 700+ sessions, many connecting and learning opportunities, including workshops. In addition, more than 330 exhibitions were held on the GDC Expo Floor, and industry leaders such as Amazon Web Services, Adobe, Discord, Google, NEXON showcased their latest technologies, programs and services. As ShiftDelet.Net, we followed the event on-site in the USA.

In addition, GDC has announced a digital event called GDC Showcase 2023, which will be held on June 27-29, 2023. With this online event, developers around the world can easily attend GDC sessions.

Best of the year awards

GDC 2023 honored last year’s top developers with the 25th indie Game Festival (IGF) Awards and the 23rd annual Game Developers Choice Awards (GDCA). In particular, Cosmo D Studios’ Betrayal At Club Low won the Nuovo Award and the Seumas McNally Grand Prize, which gave judges the opportunity to think about the games in a different way. Elden Ring won Best Visual Art, Best Design, and Game of the Year awards at the GDCA, while the developers of God of War Ragnarök also won Best Sound, Best Tech, and Audience Awards.

GDC will return next year on March 18-22, 2024. Applications for GDC 2024 will open in the summer.
