Apple introduced its new operating systems, computers and virtual reality glasses at the WWDC 23 event it held earlier this month. What does iOS 17 bring for Apple Podcasts?
With iOS 17, the Apple Podcasts app gets a revamped “What’s Playing?” brings experience. In addition, it offers many new features such as queuing, search filters, and linking subscriptions with popular apps like TikTok in the App Store and more.
With iOS 17, listeners can simply tap the Up Next button when they want to see the next episode and tap the More menu (…) to add a new episode to the queue, or tap and hold an episode and tap Add to Queue.
After a partition is added, the Next feature creates a new Queue partition, which makes it easy to reorder and clean partitions. When you listen to all the added episodes, the ones in the Next section continue to play.
With the new update, Apple Podcasts is starting to support episode art for all shows. We will be able to learn more about the topic of each episode with an original artwork, graphic or photo displayed in the new Now Playing screen and Queue.
Another improvement is in the search filters. Listeners will be able to more easily find the podcasts they’re looking for with new filters for Top Results, Shows, Episodes, and Channels. The search results will also offer more information, such as how long you’ve been in a started episode or whether an episode has been saved to the Library.
Another expected innovation was the option to connect with applications. From next fall, after iOS 17 is released, Apple Podcasts users can also use fitness and health apps like Calm or kids and family apps like Lingokids, especially news apps like Bloomberg, The Economist, The Times, The Wall Street Journal and The Washington Post. can connect. This way, Apple Podcasts will automatically recognize those App Store subscriptions and add the relevant channel or show to a Library.
Finally, listeners will encounter a new design for episodes, shows, and channels that make it easier to preview, play, and follow podcasts. In addition, it should be noted that these updates have patches to fix many bugs. In this way, a much faster and synchronous experience will be offered.
