What actually is this roller on the charging cable and what does it do?

You've probably noticed it before: Many laptops and many other electronic devices have a small plastic cylinder in their charging or power cord. So what exactly does this cylinder piece in the cables do, what is its function? Let's see together...

What is the roller found on some charging cables and what does it do? In this article we look at the answer to this question. Let’s say right away that chargers for computers are now available in a wide variety of designs and with a wide range of functions. Some charging cables have a small cylinder made of plastic called a noise suppression filter.

This filter is designed to ensure that the functionality of other electronic devices is not impaired. Devices such as laptops produce electromagnetic waves when switched on. These are transmitted to the environment by the charging cable. This can lead to interference called “jacket waves” on other technical devices. Among other things, WLAN can also be distorted if transmitted on the same wavelength or on the same frequency.

Noise suppression filter absorbs electromagnetic waves

The noise suppression filter has the function of preventing the propagation of electromagnetic waves. It provides cancellation of electromagnetic waves by means of a ferrite core mounted within it, since ferrite is a non-conductive or electrically non-conductive material. The charging cable passes through the ferrite core, thus absorbing electromagnetic waves and thus fulfilling its function.
