The latest situation in the fierce struggle between Apple’s iPad devices and Android tablets has become clear. Analysis firm Canalys has shared data for the fourth quarter of 2021 on the tablet market in the USA. PC shipments (including tablets) in the country fell 28 percent this quarter, but grew 1 percent overall in 2021, according to the report.
In the report, which emphasized that consumer demand has slowed down significantly, it was stated that tablet shipments in the USA decreased by 31 percent compared to the previous period and decreased to 12.7 million. When looking at tablet sales, it is observed that there is a tough competition between Apple and Amazon, while the top 5 brands that dominate the market did not go unnoticed.
iPad leads the tablet market
According to the Canalys report, Apple led the tablet market both in the last quarter and for the whole of 2021. 5.1 million iPads sold during this period made the company dominate the US tablet market in the fourth quarter of 2021 with a 40 percent market share. Amazon, on the other hand, came in second with a market share of 26.4 percent in the same quarter, with 3.6 million tablets sold.
Samsung sold 1.7 million tablets in the US, reaching 14 percent market share in the fourth quarter, placing it in third place. These 3 brands were followed by Microsoft (5 percent) and TCL (4.4 percent), while the market share of manufacturers in the Other category was measured as 10 percent.
Android tablet sales did not surpass iPad in other periods
When we look at the overall 2021, Apple led the tablet market in the USA, reaching a 42.1 percent market share with a total of 19.1 million iPad sales. Apple is followed by Amazon, which has a 23.9 percent market share with 10.9 million tablet sales; Samsung was third with 17.4 percent, Microsoft was fourth with 3.9 percent and Lenovo was fifth with 3.0 percent.
In the United States, the leadership in the Android tablet – iPad competition belongs to Apple. Although Amazon is in an important position with the tablets it produces under the Fire brand, it seems that it cannot be an alternative to the iPad.
