Nagehan Sergeant
- Series: The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel
- Movie: Burning
- Book: There Will Be a Day Asra Bedel – Chingiz Aitmatov.
It’s time for my favourites. My favorite series to watch this year is The Marvelous Mrs. It was Maisel. Living a very ‘traditional’ life in New York in the 60s, Mrs. The production, which tells the story of Maisel’s sudden abandonment by her husband, being cheated on and her transformation into an incredibly talented stand-up artist who finds herself on stage while trying to get over them, is both a great comedy and a successful production.
Your favorite movie is Burning. The film, which tells the story full of tension, anger and surprises between a poor man, an old friend he came across by chance, and a rich and arrogant man, managed to become one of the productions that stuck in my mind even though I watched it late.
My favorite book that I read this year is the Day Olur Asra Bedel, which I read many years ago in the first year of high school and fell in love with it and decided to read it again almost 15 years later. Aitmatov’s masterfully written book tells the journey of a worker living a miserable life in the middle of the steppe, on a camel to bury his lost colleague. However, this journey almost turns into a time travel and turns into a wonderful story that draws lines between the past, the future, the cold war, the first space studies, science, tradition, modern life, the struggle of the working class, the oppressive regime and practices of communist Russia.

This work, in which the Simulation theory, which is still one of the most important theories of our age, is built, is a wonderful work in which Baudrillard’s ideas on reality and society are included. The work also deals a lot with how the media and culture disrupt and rebuild societies.

Pelin Sumer
- Series: Like
- Movie: A New Testament
- Book: The League of Fools – John Kennedy Toole
Our editor-in-chief Pelin Sümer’s favorite series has been like, which has managed to make us burst into laughter for three seasons in a row. As written by Feyyaz Yiğit and Aziz Kedi, it is about the absurd daily lives of İlkkan, Yılmaz and Ersoy.
His favorite movie is The Brand New Testament. The film, which tells the absurd story of ‘God’, a sullen father who controls people and the world from his computer seat, his daughter who escapes from his authority, and his wife, who, by chance, overthrew him, offers a wonderful look at social roles and the ‘father’ figure.
On the other hand, Union of Fools is again an absurd satire. The story of Ignatius, a nasty, gluttonous, vulgar man who hates everything and everyone, stands against society, is published 10 years after the suicide of its author, John Kennedy Toole, and won the Pulitzer Prize for Novel. The award is given to a deceased writer for the first time…
