Web3 domain provider Ethereum Name Service (ENS) may lose the Eth.link domain because it has expired. The only person who can renew Eth.link is currently in jail.
According to GoDaddy, the rights to Eth.link expired on July 26. The domain name will be available on September 5th.
The Search for a Solution for Eth.link Continues
Web3 domain name provider Ethereum Name Service (ENS) continues to search for a solution for Eth.link. The ENS DAO community currently sees the refresh alert in a green bar at the top when they enter the site. This is because Virgil Griffith, the only person who can renew the domain name, is in jail. Griffith was sentenced to 63 months in prison for helping North Koreans use cryptocurrencies to circumvent sanctions. Seeking a solution to this, ENS made a statement on Twitter and shared the current situation on the subject.
We're aware that https://t.co/C7Kj40AtGU is down. Unfortunately, the name is owned by Virgil Griffith, who is currently unavailable, and despite help from his lawyer, we've been unable to obtain access to his registrar account to renew the name so far.

ENS DAO is a decentralized autonomous organization that manages the Ethereum Name Service protocol, which is the Web3 version of a domain name service provider. ENS is the protocol behind the numerous .eth names spawned by the Ethereum community. Users purchased .eth names as a way to have their own domain. These purchased ENS names can then be linked to your wallet address, making transactions easier instead of having to type in a long and complex Ethereum address.
