Developed by Apple, CarPlay allows iPhone users to connect their devices with their cars. CarPlay, which allows to use the car as an infotainment system, is a technology that also increases the driving experience. We also tried using this technology in a 12-year-old car.
Is it possible to use CarPlay in every car?
New generation cars have support such as CarPlay or Android Auto. However, it is not possible to expect this support in a 12-year-old model. We’ve embedded an Android-based tablet into the vehicle and added third-party CarPlay support.
When you connect iPhone to the car with CarPlay, you can access various iOS functions from the dashboard of the car. You can use many features such as making/receiving calls, sending text messages, listening to music, accessing Apple Maps. Third-party hardware also provides this CarPlay support to the vehicle. You can watch our video above to see the results in more detail.
The hardware we plug into the 12-year-old car actually comes as an Android tablet. It is possible to say that it offers a fluent experience with 2GB of RAM and 32GB of internal storage. It works like CarPlay thanks to the software called SpeedPlay.
The CarPlay interface continues to receive new features to minimize distractions while driving. Apple has opened up innovative usage with the latest big icons and voice commands. CarPlay can be connected wired or wirelessly, depending on the vehicle’s compatibility. The hardware we used offered wireless support.
