People living in Oregon, located on the Pacific coast of the USA, recently received an interesting warning from the police department: “Don’t play with grenades”. The reason for this is the grenades found on the shoreline.
The Newport Police Department was compelled to issue such a warning after several grenades were found washed up near Agate beach.
The police department went to the area after reports of objects found by the public in the area between Agate beach and Yaquina Bay State Park. After the investigations, the Oregon State Bomb Squad was requested to be sent to the area immediately, and it was concluded that these objects were bombs.
In the statement made by the department, “These objects are white and have a label that says ‘Warning Explosive’,” while “The label clearly states that the product is a Simulator Grenade M116A. If you come across such an object, please do not touch it or try to move it. Call the police to report it” notes.
The label on the photographed object clearly states that the device is a simulator grenade. Even the instructions for use can be seen on the label. According to the manufacturer, the grenades are designed to familiarize soldiers with “the sights and sounds of war in a non-lethal format” and are used for training purposes. Objects flash and produce a sound of at least 125 dB, mimicking live grenades.
While not as deadly as grenades, non-lethal weapons can still do some damage. For this reason, while the police took quick action, they found the solution to inform the public. The whereabouts of the grenades is currently unknown.
