The information coming today from the ongoing Mobile World Congress (MWC) in Barcelona shows that Volkswagen has taken an important step in this regard.
Volkswagen has announced the app store where you can download applications such as TikTok and Spotify to your vehicle.
Volkswagen’s software division Cariad has announced the development of an app store for cars. It was stated that this store can be used in brands included in the Volkswagen Group, which includes many automobile giants from Audi to Porsche.
With the new application store, users will be able to download dozens of applications, including TikTok, Amazon Music, Spotify, game applications, to their vehicles. The store, called the “Group Application Store”, will initially debut with more than two dozen applications from many different categories such as weather, news, gaming, social media, navigation, electric vehicle charging.
According to Cariad CEO Dirk Hilgenberg, hundreds more apps will be added to the store in the future. Hilgenberg also stated that the move is just the beginning for the brand in software, and that we will see many more similar steps.
The app store will come to Audi vehicles first
It was also announced that the new application store will come to Audi, which operates within Volkswagen, as of July 2023. Accordingly, the first cars to be featured in the store will be 2023 model A4, A5, Q5, A6, A8, Q8 e-tron and e-tron GTs.
The auto giant stated that its aim is to bring the store to other brands within the company. It was stated that we will see the application store in all Audi’s vehicles in the future, followed by Porsche and Volkswagen.
