One of the recent trends in the smartphone industry is undoubtedly foldable screens. Today, many brands are trying to make a difference in the market with their foldable screen phones. The Chinese technology giant Vivo has recently joined the foldable screen phone market, and the smartphone named “X Fold” managed to enter the Guinness Book of Records.

The biggest problem with foldable screen phones is durability. The screens of foldable smartphones can be deformed more easily as they have a softer and more flexible structure compared to standard smartphone screens. Here, Vivo broke a record in this regard. Vivo X Fold, which was folded and opened non-stop for 11 days, 6 hours, 20 minutes and 9 seconds to enter the Guinness Book of Records, and was subjected to 300 thousand folding movements in this process, left all its competitors behind. The screen of X Fold had the strength of the first day after the tests.

The previous record was 200 thousand.

The Guinness Book of Records had previously hosted foldable screen phones and tested the highest durability. Before Vivo, this record was recorded as 200 thousand. Vivo broke this record by raising the bar by 50 percent. Moreover, the testing process was broadcast live from beginning to end. The live broadcast, which lasted 270 hours, 20 minutes and 9 seconds, was the longest broadcast to show a smartphone testing process. So how did Vivo X Fold manage to be so durable? What kind of technology did the engineers use in this smartphone and how did they manage to reach this level?

The interior design of the Vivo X Fold looks like this:

Vivo used an 8.03-inch LTPO AMOLED display on its first phone with a foldable screen. Combining this ultra-thin display with technologies used in the aerospace industry, engineers have designed a hinge that is unique in the industry. Using materials from aerospace technologies, this hinge was 76 percent stronger than its competitors. The hinge, which increased its corrosion resistance 21 times, also reduced the deformation on the screen due to folding with its middle frame structure.
