Today is World Hearing Day and Vivo has officially announced the new Sign Language Interpreter app that converts speech to both sign language and text in real time. The application will be available on the OriginOS operating system models used by Vivo on their smartphones.

Unblocking app from Vivo

Announced with the words “Sign Language Interpreter is trying to open a window for you if the hearing impaired is a high wall,” the application enables two-way communication. In other words, the application can directly translate your speech into sign language and text, and vice versa.

On the other hand, sign language recognition technologies have been struggling to develop for a long time. Because the developers had difficulty in describing this unique language, they were weak in conveying the directions, order and shapes of movements. However, the OrginOS team has successfully overcome these challenges and made significant progress in sign language recognition technology. The app can currently recognize 1200 sign language words, with over 80 percent accuracy. Vivo underlines that the OrginOS team will continue to develop the application. Although this feature is available in Chinese for now, it is possible to expand to more markets.
