I think we will agree that our nature full of obscurity always fascinates us with its flawless beauty… Now I will tell you about a short film where you will feel the perfect harmony and cycle of nature.
French video artist Thomas Blanchard made a fascinating film by observing various plants and insects over several months. The artist allows us to see the world of plants more closely with the videos he prepares thanks to macro lenses.
The Green Reapers
Artist Thomas Blanchard’s latest project, The Green Reapers, is about the life of carnivorous plants and the life cycle of butterflies. However, the artist comes up with a magnificent 3-minute video in which we will feel the cycle of not only butterflies and carnivorous plants, but also nature. The film allows the audience to explore a miniature world with a butterfly in the process of being born, plants growing, carnivorous plants being hunted.
Green Reapers is an experimental film that combines images of various plants and insects, created using the time-lapse technique. The project was created using an 8K resolution camera. In his project, Blanchard set his camera to shoot every seven minutes for three months to capture the natural cycles of carnivorous plants. The artist stated that one of the most difficult parts of the project was to record an image of a butterfly emerging from its cocoon. The artist, who waited all night to capture that moment, also stated that all the insects hunted by the plants were released throughout the project.
