The National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) launched the Perseverance spacecraft as part of the Mars Exploration Program on July 17, 2020, the spacecraft landed in the Jezero crater on February 18, 2021. It is known that the main tasks of the spacecraft, which is the size of an average car, are to search for signs of ancient Martian life in the Jezero crater, which is home to a large lake and river delta in ancient times, and to collect samples to be delivered to Earth.

The 5-flight demonstration mission of Perseverance’s Ingenuity helicopter designed for aerial reconnaissance of Mars has begun. The Ingenuity helicopter made its flight to Mars on September 4, passing through the “Seitah” region of Mars’ Jezero Crater. Ingenuity traveled 210 meters horizontally and 8 meters vertically in the flight that lasted 160 seconds.

This video, showing the first flight of Ingenuity for Perseverance’s aerial reconnaissance mission, gave hope to scientists and viewers about Mars exploration work. Flight missions, which began on September 4, continued on October 24 and November 6.

Many images were recorded from various angles during the space mission to explore Mars. Two short videos of the flight of NASA’s Ingenuity helicopter, which is the first helicopter on a different planet, over the Red Planet Mars, were brought together and shared. The images were recorded by the Mastcam-Z camera system onboard NASA’s Perseverance spacecraft.

Justin Maki, NASA Investigator in Southern California, said, “Even from 300 meters away, it gives viewers a detailed insight into the environment Ingenuity has explored, thanks to its wide viewing angle and quality recording performance. ” said. Researcher Maki emphasized that this video reveals the value of Mastcam-Z.
