Foldable screen technology is developing a little more every day and is met with great interest among technology enthusiasts. However, TCL’s ‘Fold’n Roll’ concept phone, which we have mentioned to you before, does not just open and expand. According to a published video, the screen of the new phone ‘slides’ towards the back surface of the phone.
At the DTC 2021 fair in China, TCL introduced a prototype of the Fold’n Roll, which combines hinges and mechanics in a single device. The trick of the device is that it can be folded in half and, if necessary, expand to the left to get a large screen area, which makes the device extremely impressive and extraordinary.
It is not yet clear whether the phone will be produced commercially.
It is not clear for now whether a TCL phone will be released in this design, as the company has chosen not to share its plans in this regard. The idea may sound very pleasing to the ear and the eye; however, considering that this technology will be extremely costly, it can be said that even if the phone is produced, the price tag will be quite pocket-friendly.
According to Counterpoint Research’s latest ‘Foldable Smartphone Shipment Forecast’, shipments for 2021 will remain in the single digits at around 9 million units; however, this still means that there will be a 3-fold growth compared to 2020. With a market share of 88%, Samsung stands out as the dominator of the foldable phone market for now. However, by 2023, foldable smartphone shipments are expected to grow 10 times.
