As the browser wars rage on, Vivaldi’s CEO accused Microsoft of using “old tactics” to force users to install the Edge browser in an uncompetitive manner. Jon von Tetzchner, CEO of Edge’s competitor Vivaldi browser, published a lengthy blog post that begins, “It’s frustrating to see Microsoft once again engage in blatantly anti-competitive practices in 2021.”
We’ve been seeing for a while that Microsoft is making moves that can be considered dangerous on a very fine line to make the Edge browser more popular. Vivaldi expressed this openly with an accusation. Explicit attacks against Chrome, forced advertising of Microsoft services, and Windows 11 users making it difficult to change the default browser from Edge to another are all seen as a result of these actions.
