The Ministry of Commerce had paved the way for refurbished phones with a circular in the Official Gazette in the past. According to this circular, worn-out smartphones were to be repaired at the centers registered by the ministry, then certified and put on the market again. In this way, consumers would both have the addressee and be protected in the phones they bought second-hand. Now, there has been a new development regarding this issue.
With a Presidential Decision in today’s issue of the Official Gazette, the VAT applied on the sales of refurbished smartphones was reduced from 18 percent to 1 percent. Thus, the price of smartphones, which are sold with a guarantee after repair, has been opened.
Certified second-hand phone prices will drop
It is not easy to buy a brand new smartphone in Turkey. Moreover, when you want to approach high-end phones, you have to sacrifice at least 10 thousand TL. The latest Presidential Decision in the Official Gazette seems to push the citizen to a second hand phone. With this decision, it will be possible for consumers to find phones at affordable prices.
The article, which is included in the current issue of the Official Gazette and added to the list 1, where 1 percent VAT is applied, is as follows:
