Valve has released an official video of how the handheld gaming computer Steam Deck is opened, shortly before it reaches its customers. Before we dive into the disassembly though, the company spent about a minute warning you not to open your Steam Deck unless you’re sure you know what you’re doing.

Valve says spare parts support will be available
In the video, Valve shows how to swap two parts of the system. First, Valve shows how to replace the control sticks. The company warns that these are completely custom, but says it will roll out a resource for “spare parts, control sticks, SSDs, and possibly more” in the coming months.
After that, Valve shows how to remove the SSD; this can be useful for people who may have reserved the cheapest version with eMMC hard drive to upgrade on their own. All versions of Steam Deck, including the eMMC driver version, have a m. Note that it uses 2 connectors; so if you plan to make an exchange you will need to reinstall the operating system and install all the games on your other drive.
Valve said the Steam Deck will start shipping in December, but initial reservations will quickly take off from virtual shelves. If you reserve one now, you will have to wait until the second quarter of 2022 at the earliest to have the opportunity to fully fulfill the order.
