Steam, the favorite platform of all PC gamers, has recently been subject to complaints from gamers because of abuse of discount policies by game companies. Game companies are discounting their games in absurd amounts.
They discount absurd amounts, but how and what does it do? Game companies apply discounts such as 1%, 2% and 3% to their games and put their games on the discount page. In this scenario, which we can call a kind of ‘coyote’, they both do not really discount their games and put their games on the main page. Valve, on the other hand, announced that it has taken new measures against these fake discounts on Steam.
New rules against fake discounts on Steam
As of March 28, Steam’s new rules against fake discounts are as follows:
- Discount will be applied at the exit of the game, but no new discounts will be made for 28 days from the moment the release day ends,
- After the price increase in any currency, the game will not be discounted for 28 days,
- Discounts
- Discounts for seasonal sale events cannot be made within 28 days of the previous sale, except for seasonal events across Steam, within 28 days of the game’s release, within 28 days of the end of your launch sale, or after a price increase in any currency. will not be available within the next 28 days,
- Price change while the game has a discount or is scheduled for a future date
- A game cannot be discounted more than 90% or less than 10%,
- Special offers cannot be longer than two weeks or less than 1 day,
As noted above, these rules will not apply during the four major sale seasons that take place each year: Chinese New Year Sale, Summer Sale, Autumn Sale, and Winter Sale. The new rules will end issues with Steam events, including raising the price of a game before a discount occurs and then lowering it to its original amount during the event.
Another important change is that there will be no more than 90% or less than 10% discount on products; According to the previous rules, it was also forbidden for only games to be 100% discounted. Thanks to these rules, game companies will not be able to discount a game at a ridiculously low rate of 1% or 2%, so they won’t be able to stand out as ‘Look, we’re discounting’.
