Apple announced its first mixed reality headset, Vision Pro, in June. However, the device is not yet released as the company is still working on improving different aspects of the device. Apple had already announced during the presentation that Vision Pro would be released in early 2024. However, some users who have tried the headset say that the Pro is too heavy, even for short periods of time.

Vision Pro may upset about weight

The current model weighs about half a kilo (453g), which may be too heavy for some users, Mark Gurman says in his “Power On” newsletter. This causes some users to experience neck pain even during short-term use. However, we should point out that this weight is not exclusive to Apple. For example, Meta Quest 3 weighs 515 grams. However, the way the weight is distributed is very important for comfort.

On the other hand, it is reported that Apple is currently in the final stages of Vision Pro tests and cannot do anything about the weight after this point. However, the company is said to be considering an overhead strap that would help distribute weight more evenly and is taking the issue more seriously for future models. In its current form, the headgear looks like it will apply pressure towards the front of your face. Additionally, it should be noted that the overhead strap in Meta Quest 3 contributes to the distribution of weight.

Besides this, Apple is also reportedly working to make the next versions of Vision Pro more accessible to people who wear glasses. For those who don’t know, the current model cannot be used with glasses and users must wear magnetic prescription lenses before using it. Apple is reportedly considering selling future devices with pre-installed prescription lenses. However, this approach may also bring challenges such as the user’s vision prescription changing or the user wanting to share Vision Pro with others.
