As you know, we are using SSDs as storage units in our computers more and more every day. So much so that these solutions have become a part of our lives with both backup and faster transfer speeds. However, unexpected problems can lead to the loss of all your data. Finally, SanDisk SSDs are on the agenda with a serious problem similar to this.

SanDisk Extreme SSDs are in serious trouble

Reportedly, SanDisk Extreme and WD MyPassport SSDs are experiencing a critical issue that causes data to be permanently wiped. So much so that many complaints have been shared on Reddit and Sandisk forums that the driver has become unusable. It should also be noted that this problem is not the first of its kind.

Complaints like this first surfaced in May and were handled by The Verge. In fact, SanDisk’s parent company, Western Digital (WD), admitted that its 4TB SanDisk Extreme and Extreme Pro portable SSDs were critically corrupted, and a new update was released afterwards. However, the current situation shows that the problem applies to a large number of models.

Data is completely deleted

According to reports, this issue applies to SanDisk Extreme, Extreme Portable, Extreme Pro Portable or WD MyPassport SSDs with capacities of 2TB to 4TB. It is also stated that these SSDs are offered for sale with great discounts. The source of the problem is not clear yet. However, users say that data is lost after writing and their discs suddenly become unreadable. At this stage, although the drives appear to be usable, any data cannot be accessed or transferred.

No official statement was shared from WD about the problems experienced. Regarding the process, it only states that “issues have been verified and a software fix has been shared for some affected models”. Of course, it is worth noting that this was voiced in May. Therefore, we advise users to be careful and keep their data safe.
