TikTok, which has been the subject of discussion by US politicians for a while, made important confessions about data sharing. In a letter sent by TikTok to the US Senate, it was stated that employees in China are reviewing data “under certain conditions”.
TikTok: Chinese employees can access data of US users
As a result of a claim that emerged in the past weeks, it was stated that TikTok shared user data in the USA with China. The claim that ByteDance employees in China (the owner of TikTok) could access data belonging to US users, managed to confuse the agenda. The short video platform made a new briefing to the US Senate.
It turned out that non-US employees, including employees based in China, may have access to data. But according to the letter written by TikTok CEO Shou Zi Chew, employees must go through the security team in the US before reviewing the data.
While ByteDance employees outside the US have access to the data, TikTok said they have a pretty strong data classification system and approval process. In other words, employees in China need to get approval from the control center in the USA to review the information.
Employees outside the US, including employees based in China, may access TikTok US user data subject to a set of robust cybersecurity controls and authorization confirmation protocols overseen by our US-based security team.
Apple and Google were contacted a while ago to remove TikTok from the App Store and Play Store. It should be reminded that the application, which is stated to endanger US users, is still available all over the world.
