Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania, which was released on February 17, achieved great success in its first week and was the movie that started the 5th phase of the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU). However, the entire script of the movie was leaked days before the release of the movie.
The user, who is the moderator of the r/MarvelStudiosSpoilers forum on Reddit, first leaked very important details about the story of the movie last January, and then shared the subtitle file with the English subtitles of the movie. It was noticed right after the release of the movie that the subtitle file, which was presented to users anonymously via Google Drive, was real.
Removed all posts sharing movie-related leaks
Although Marvel Studios officials, pursuing the shares, managed to permanently close the Google Drive link where the subtitles were shared and the account that uploaded the file, they have difficulty in accessing the moderator’s information. Although Marvel officials insisted on putting pressure on Reddit to provide user information, it could not obtain this information due to the strict user privacy policy of Reddit, the world’s largest forum site.
Although the shared posts were deleted after copyright infringement applications, the identity of the moderator responsible for the posts remained confidential. However, Marvel, who did not give up despite everything, recently sued this anonymous user.
According to the information in the case file; The company agreed with Reddit in the first place and requested that this moderator’s information be forwarded to them through legal means. While the court conveyed this reconciliation request to Reddit employees, it is not known what the Reddit administrators will decide. Marvel, which has been trying to get the user’s information since January 15, states that the user violates more than one company policy, makes the company lose money and harms the internet culture.
Considering the attitude of Reddit, which has not shared user information in similar situations before, and even went to court just to protect users’ privacy, Marvel’s job seems a bit difficult.
