Google is preparing a new update to its search service that will filter out clickbait and highlight original content created by creators.

The company said in a blog post that they know it’s frustrating for users to see content that is not original and makes irrelevant promotions about the content, and plans to prevent it. For example, better and original product reviews will now appear higher in search results. Also, misleading headlines about content will be ignored.

The update focuses on ignoring content that lacks quality and originality, especially on topics related to online education, technology, shopping, arts and entertainment. For example, Google plans to prevent exaggerated movie reviews and prevent users from seeing the same content they’ve seen before over and over in every search result.

In addition, Google has been planning to further improve product reviews by highlighting reviews written by experts for a while. This feature was first introduced in the past months and was intended to allow people who actually use the product to comment on the disadvantages, features and use of the product.

What will change with the Google update?

In particular, Google’s blog post states: “We’re constantly updating Search to make sure we’re helping you find high-quality content. Over the next week, we tackle content that appears to have been created to rank well in search engines rather than to help or inform people. We will start the “useful content update” for

This ranking update will help ensure that non-original, low-quality content does not rank high in Search, and our testing shows it will improve results specifically for online education, as well as content related to arts and entertainment, shopping and technology.

For example, if you’re looking for information about a new movie, you may have seen articles that aggregate reviews on other sites without adding perspectives beyond those previously found on other sites. This won’t help much if you’re expecting to read something new. With this update, you’ll see more results with unique, authentic information, so you’ll be more likely to read something you haven’t seen before.”

Google’s blog post continues: “We know that product reviews can play an important role in helping you make a decision about something to buy. Last year, we launched a series of updates to show more helpful, in-depth reviews based on first-hand expertise in search results.

We’ve continued to improve these systems and will release another update in the coming weeks to make it even easier to find high-quality, original reviews. We will continue this work to ensure you find the most useful information when researching a purchase on the web. We hope these updates help you access more useful information and valuable perspectives on Search. We look forward to building on this work in the coming months to make it even easier to find original content by and for natural people.”

The company will roll out this content update for English users around the world next week, with more announcements regarding improvements to the review feature in the coming weeks.
