USB Association, which started a new era by introducing the USB4 standard in 2019, made the standard much better with the second version before the end of this year. With the USB4 2.0 version, the speeds are doubled.
What does USB4 2.0 offer?
USB4 was actually developed on the Thunderbolt 3 technology that Intel made available. The standard, which can reach a total of 40Gbps speeds in two directions, still has not reached widespread use. The market mainly prefers USB 3.x versions.
USB 4.0 standard officially announced
The USB4 2.0 version, on the other hand, brings data transfer rates to 80Gbps. With a new physical layer architecture, these speeds are possible in existing 40Gbps USB Type-C passive cables and newly licensed 80Gbps USB Type-C active cables. The developments have been announced for the developers for now. In the near future, guides will be prepared for the brand and marketing departments.
Apart from this, the protocol update that increases the USB 3.2 data channels over 20Gbps and updates for more efficient bandwidth use of DisplayPort and PCIe connections will also start to be distributed.
