The iPhone 15 series will be the first iPhone series to feature USB-C charging ports instead of Lightning. Apple is sure to make big speeches about the benefits that switching to USB-C will bring to iPhone users, without fully acknowledging the role of European Union legislation that forces all smartphone manufacturers to use the same port for charging. In other words, Apple will present this transition, which it had to make, with fancy words.
While it’s clear that USB-C isn’t the only reason to switch to the iPhone 15, a surprisingly new survey shows that USB-C switching is among the top reasons. Additionally, due to Apple’s adoption of USB-C, existing Android users may also be inclined to switch to the iPhone.
SellCell conducted a survey asking the same questions to over 1,000 iPhone users and over 1,000 Android users. The company reports that nearly 63% of iPhone owners say they would switch to the iPhone 15 because of its USB-C connectivity. Almost 37% of those who would upgrade say they will do so because they can use a single charging cable for iPhones, Macs and iPads. 30 percent say they would like iPhones to be compatible with non-Apple chargers.
More than 38% of users who said the USB-C charger would not lead them to buy an iPhone 15 said they were satisfied with the current iPhone. Another 31% say the new port will not affect their decision to upgrade the phone.
Looking at the Android side, more than 44% of Android device owners say they will buy the iPhone 15 because of its USB-C charging. About 36% of them say it is important for new phones to be compatible with chargers used by non-Apple devices.
Approximately 74% of Android owners who did not want to upgrade to the iPhone 15 due to USB-C say they are satisfied with the current Android phone.
Overall, only 34% of Android respondents said they would buy an iPhone 15 when they upgraded their phone.
