The US military has appealed to the public to help find the missing plane after a pilot escaped by jumping from an F-35B Lightning II jet.

An accident caused an unnamed pilot to jump out of the plane, one of the U.S. military’s most expensive planes worth about $135.8 million, while flying near Joint Base Charleston on Sunday.

“We are working with Marine Corps Air Station Beaufort to locate the F-35 involved in an accident this afternoon,” he said at Joint Base Charleston, X. “The pilot was evacuated safely. If you have any information that could help our rescue teams locate the F-35, please call the Base Defense Operations Center at 843-963-3600. “Based on the last known location of the jet and in coordination with the FAA, we are focusing our attention north of JB Charleston and around Lake Moultrie and Lake Marion.”

According to local news outlet News 2, the pilot was found safely ejected from the plane near South Kenwood Drive in North Charleston and was taken to a local medical center for treatment. It was stated that his condition was stable. According to the statement made by the United States Marine Corps to Insider, an investigation is being launched into the accident.

They also lost their nuclear weapons

While an airplane seems like a pretty strange object to lose, it’s not the worst thing the United States has lost. There are six nuclear weapons lost by various branches of the military, at least according to officially released numbers. One of them was lost in North Carolina after the wing of a B-52 bomber carrying the weapon broke off, forcing both pilots to eject from the plane. The bomb has not been found since it disappeared in 1961.
