US Government Takes Back $30 Million
Crypto analytics firm Chainalysis has announced that the US government has recovered $30 million in funds stolen from Axie Infinity.
Erin Plante of Chainalysis noted that US authorities have recovered funds stolen from the North Korean hacking group Lazarus Group, which has increased its activities in recent years.
Plante used the following statements in his blog post on the subject:
“$30 million in funds stolen by hackers affiliated with the North Korean government, with the help of leading organizations in the cryptocurrency industry and US law enforcement agencies, has been recovered, this is the first time cryptocurrencies seized by a North Korean hacking group have been recovered. . We are confident that this will not be the last.”
More than $600 million in funds has been stolen from Axie Infinity in the past months by hackers. These funds were laundered through Tornado Cash. North Korean hackers laundering money using Tornado Cash caused the US Treasury Department to impose sanctions on Tornado Cash.
The Treasury Department has yet to make a statement on the matter.
