Warsaw indie game development studio Kool2Play announced today that they’re making major changes to Uragun, whose first games are available on Steam Early Access. Currently, Uragun has 92% positive reviews on Steam, although players have enjoyed tight and satisfying combat, but in their feedback they indicated that they desire a deeper and replayable mechanic. Kool2Play, which has been planning a similar change for a while, started working on a new version of Uragun with this feedback.
Everything players praised about Uragun will remain the same: smooth top view shooter enjoyment, challenging yet balanced encounters, stunning environments and hilarious AI conversation. What will change in the game then?
permadeath Once the player’s Mech is destroyed, they will have to start a completely new game. Most of the collected items (weapons, mods, expansion cartridges, etc.) will be lost.
Random world map. Players will always encounter a different set of missions and rewards. After each defeat, the evil AI will reconfigure travel routes so that traveling through the same region will always be a different experience.
Persistent progress. While many items will be lost upon death, there will be a skill tree for the player to spend the permanent resources they can find in each game session and increase their chances against hordes of mechs. This will help players to master the battles on their Uragun.
Revamped character build system. To adapt to the new build, and at the same time make the game deeper and more enjoyable, the studio will expand the types of equipment that can be collected so that players can create more diverse and deadly builds for their Mech.
But the new roguelite build isn’t the only thing the team is working on. Kool2Play has been working on Uragun since its Early Access launch – doing some technical infrastructure work, such as updating the engine and addressing aspects that should significantly improve the game’s performance in the future. In addition, many new content is under construction and will be added to the game in the next update.
New region. Nairobi’s Underground. Kenya’s capital has become a hyper-advanced technological metropolis. Beneath its increasingly less habitable surface due to the climate crisis, a maze of endless tunnels and facilities has been built. The journey of our Mech will take us to this region that was once the home of a revolution and then turned into a hideout for resistance to the corruption of artificial intelligence. However, add-ons will not be limited to just images. New enemy types will be found in Nairobi’s underground city with attack and movement patterns not seen in other regions. The shape and size of the arenas will also vary to support the game.
More types of enemies. The producing team wants to push the diversity of enemies between regions as much as possible. For this reason, the region distributions of the existing enemy units are re-formed. While many are exclusive to one region, completely new enemies are also being developed, along with new variants of existing ones. New types of attacks, new movement patterns… all to keep players facing interesting and varied challenges.
Weapons, Mods, Heat Attacks and much more. Lots of new weapons and improvements are coming to support the roguelite build and make each game truly unique. Combined, all these elements will support a wide variety of playstyles.
“We really believe this will be the ultimate way to experience the action of Uragun,” said Fran Avilés, Uragun’s game director. “We always wanted to create a type of combat that felt great in any context and had enough depth to turn the learning process into an explosion of enjoyment for players. We also planned a deep and fun development system, as we think Mech is the most important feature of the games.”
The release date of Uragun’s next update is not yet clear. The team will try to share the first roguelite release with players as soon as possible so that they can incorporate their feedback and create an unforgettable experience with the community.
